Sam's version of events...
SA: "The owners have never questioned the style of play ever. They've never said to me I have to change my style, it's a myth that they have."

And there was me thinking Sullivan's very public utterances on this subject were pretty unambiguous...

So what is Sam at with these comments..?

Re: Sam's version of events...
What did Allardyce do that could have led to him being sacked without compensation? If he had done something and the owners disliked his management style as much as you are suggesting, then the owners would have sacked him.

You're living in your own conspiracy world.

And you brought up 'voluntarily' after I made my original response to your post.

I don't understand why you are struggling with all this AND trying to change what you originally said.

Re: Sam's version of events...
Disliking Allardyce because of his style of football, arrogance, disrespect of the club's tradition etc. was justified to some extent. Football fans pay good money and expect to be respected and entertained.

However suggesting that he is a shit manager demonstrates a shocking level of ignorance. He is a very successful manager who has fulfilled (and in some cases exceeded) his remit. In terms of results, he has been a resounding success.

From a personal perspective, the fact that he achieved the latter meant that the former was tolerable to some extent. He was what we needed at the time, and although it wasn't pretty, we are now in a great shape. Allardyce's role in achieving that shouldn't be overlooked.

I thought he would go at the end of last season, but the decision to stick with him and invest in the squad looks a good one. I'm enjoying the football and the results. There does seem to be a few posters who are really struggling with this though. They are still clinging on to this notion that Allardyce is an awful manager who has someone got lucky this season. It's beyond laughable.

The stats provided on MNF last night made for interesting reading:

13 seasons managed in the Prem:
0 relegations.
Average place 10th.
Best place: 6th.

When you consider he has managed newly promoted sides in Bolton and us, with his other full seasons at Blackburn, that really is some achievement!

*there's nothing the owners could do about it other than sack him and pay him off*

Yes there is. They can change things around him so that the club is no longer operating to the dinosaur theory, and he would either have to capitulate or look very silly indeed. Oh...

I haven't grabbed the word voluntary out of thin air - it's what I said in the first place. Perhaps your cognitive skills need a polish?

Lots of people leave 'voluntarily' - especially if they've been caught doing something they shouldn't and it's a better option than being 'sacked without financial recompense'.

I'm not sure why you are grabbing the word voluntary out of thin air. Why would Allardyce leave voluntarily?

He could stay on playing his DINOSAUR style and there's nothing the owners could do about it other than sack him and pay him off.

I'm not sure why you are struggling with that.

Erm, NO, he wouldn't "get the money if he was manager or not" because if he decided to leave vountarily he wouldn't get it, would he?

The post does say voluntarily. VOLUNTARILY.

I'm not quite sure why you're having difficulty with that.

The people who disagree with you are not stupid cunts.

They're just people who disagree with you.

Sam has nobody to blame but himself if some fans distrust him etc etc.

'No. If he had walked voluntarily he wouldn't have got it.'

Exactly. Since the owners had no legal cause to sack him, Allardyce would have got the money whether he was manager or not. So any change in playing style (if there has actually been one) is something he has been a willing partner in.

I'm not quite sure why you're having difficulty with that.

..... and as for the "child" remark I suggest you refer back over the years to see just how childish many have been over this anti Sam crusade, the anger and insults aimed at those that chose to back our manager or Sam himself were something else.
Look at this thread itself and you will notice an extraordinary amount of wriggling and backtracking!

If you think I'm gonna let all those stup[id cunts get away with it and then carry on abusing and disagreeing, you are mad.

Re: Sam's version of events...

I think that's unfair, in a lot of ways.

The way I see it is this, and again, I actually don't understand why people are arguing, because its a situation where everyone has had a postive impact.

The supporters were pissed off with the football, the results and (speaking personally) the transfer policy.

The owners listened to the supporters, relayed those concerns to the manager, and took a more hands on role.

The manager was given a new set of tools to work with to implement the wishes of the owners and supporters, and after initially resisting (not without fair reason) has delivered what the owners and supoorters wanted (to this point).

Actually, it's exactly the way an business should work. Customer feedback taken into account by those at the very top, who assign someone to deliver what they and the customers want, and if the person charged with that task achieve it then they're doing a good job.

Like I said, I don't see the problem here.

Maybe someone at Bolton put a thumb on top of Sam's head, just like Sulli has done at WHU?

Re: Sam's version of events...
I don't disagree with most of that SG, however at Bolton he signed Campos, Okatcha, Anelka and a couple of other tricky little Asian (I think) attacking players and they became more of a counter attacking side and not long ball, Anelka scored a bundle and got a bigger move.
By the time they finished high enough to get into Europe they were quite a neat little side, he even tried to sign Benayoun when he chose us instead, does this indicate long ball?

Re: Sam's version of events...
Okay stewie but it's not that simple is it. Sam is trying very hard to cover his tail with these comments, but the fact is HIS way was NOT winning many games AND even when it did it was fucking boring and unpleasant to watch.

That is not on when you are forking out 700 sovs a season to go watch it. So for Sam to suggest 'just winning' was all we care about is not true... we were very unhappy with his brand of football.

Nobody in their right mind really believes this is "Sam's football" we are playing now.

Re: Sam's version of events...
Hard to say how much of our recent improvement on and off the pitch can be attributed to Allardyce.
I suppose Sullivan would know the best and he's the only one really to decide about keeping Allardyce or letting him go.

I still don't quite believe Allardyce will be leading us out into the OS, but who knows what's happening behind the scenes ?

Didn't Sullivan also sign Zigic and Zarrate at Brum?

What's that got to do with anything?
Nowhere have I claimed that Sullivan is some kind of genius, who is solely responsible for our improvement.

Its like talking to a child.

Re: Sam's version of events...
Well said Sir Alf! A voice of reason amongst all this other nonsense!!!

I have just dropped into this thread to see what was going on and could not believe some of the trash I have just read!

Get over yourself you lot. We are 4th in the table and I don't care how we got there!! We may still finish in the bottom 3 although it looks unlikely!

I am glad that someone decided to invest money in our club because if they had not I'm not sure what would have happened.

I'm really glad that we have a manager that by hook or by crook got us back into the EPL and has kept us there! (Although some of the means were questionable!).

I know that if I achieve my objectives at work (however I do it!) it usually results in an acknowledgement of my good work and people tend not to second guess how I achieved it! Obviously football is different!!!

I know this is a discussion site but please can we raise the bar a little! I guess the Sam haters will just carry on!

I guess if (obviously we won't!), but if we qualify for Europe then this thread will be going strong with the usual suspects. I guess every club has the hard core of disgruntled supporters, e.g. some Arsenal supporters were asking for Wengers head on a platter at certain stages of last season!

Anyway, thanks Sam, thanks to the board and the backroom staff, thanks to the old and new supporters and thanks to the West Ham fans all over the world!!!

Re: Sam's version of events...
Unlike my erstwhile guv'ner the owners are providing BFS with the resources required to implement what they and us fans want.

If nobody had come in in the close season we'd have been as badly off as last season and in no position to play the way we are now.

In three seasons BFS delivered on his brief by getting us up and keeping us there. The price was the dire way we generally played [ the low point for me being the Hull game and not our depleted squads cup defeats ]. FWIW I'd settle for another tenth place finish coupled with better performances.

stewie griffin 5:51 Tue Oct 21
Re: Sam's version of events...
It's pretty straightforward, Rd.

We've got better players, and are playing better football.
This summer, we spent less than in previous summers.
This summer, the owners exerted a greater influence over transfer matters.
We started the season with Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan, and served up the same brand of shit that we played last year.

There's not a single person denying Allardyce's role in our recent successes, there are only people (one person) claiming that it happened as it did at Bolton, rather than some fundamental, and absolutely necessary, changes that were made in the summer, that were not necessarily instigated by the manager.
